The Senior Contract Manager leads the contractual strategy and execution across a portfolio of complex infrastructure or energy projects. The Head of Contracts manages a team of Contract Managers and ensure that all contractual obligations are fulfilled, risks are mitigated, and the company’s interests are protected throughout the project lifecycle—from contract signature to final acceptance and warranty phase.
Contract Strategy & Oversight
- Define and implement contract management policies, tools, and procedures across all projects
- Ensure consistency and compliance with contractual obligations, internal governance, and financing documentation
- Supervise the administration of EPC and service contracts, including amendments, claims, and close-out processes
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Manage and mentor a team of Contract Managers (typically 4–5)
- Allocate responsibilities based on project needs and team expertise
- Promote continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and professional development
- Ensure coordination between Contract Managers and Project Managers for seamless project execution
Risk Management & Compliance
- Oversee the identification and mitigation of contractual risks across projects
- Ensure proper documentation and traceability of contractual events and deviations
- Supervise the preparation of claims, pre-litigation files, and dispute resolution strategies in coordination with the legal department
- Monitor compliance with internal rules, applicable legislation, and lender requirements
Contract Execution & Monitoring
- Validate contract summaries and risk analyses prepared at project launch
- Ensure proper follow-up of contractual obligations during execution and warranty phases
- Supervise the issuance and receipt of guarantees, insurance documents, and non-technical deliverables
- Oversee the calculation and application of liquidated damages (LDs) and final acceptance procedures
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the main point of contact for contractual matters with internal departments (Legal, Finance, Procurement, PMO) and external stakeholders (contractors, lenders, consultants)
- Support Project Managers in managing contractual events, including delays, non-compliance, and regulatory changes
- Facilitate coordination with lenders’ advisors and ensure contractual alignment with financing requirements
Tools, Methods & Reporting
- Deploy and maintain tools for contract lifecycle management, archiving, and traceability
- Consolidate contract-related reporting for senior management and external stakeholders
- Lead lessons learned and REX processes related to contract management
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES
- Master’s degree in Law, Business, Procurement, Economics, Finance, or Engineering
- University Diploma in Contract Management
- Business School or IEP (Institute of Political Studies) diploma
- Engineering School diploma
- 10+ years experience in contract management is required; significant experience in managing complex contracts is expected for this role
- Strong expertise in Contract Management across the full lifecycle of EPC and service contracts
- General knowledge of the renewable energy sector
- Solid understanding of project finance and project management principles
- Knowledge of non-recourse project finance (infrastructure financing) is a strong asset
- Familiarity with international standards (e.g. FIDIC, IFC PS, HSE regulations)
- Fluency in English is essential (spoken and written)
- French and/or other languages are a plus
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
